Paternity Establishment

The process of paternity establishment is used to determine the existence or non-existence of a father-child relationship when a child is born out of wedlock (not during a legal marriage).

Paternity can be established for a child that is born out of wedlock when genetic testing (DNA testing) is completed or when both parties sign a notarized Acknowledgement of Paternity Affidavit.
